Our History

Forty years ago, virtually all surgery was performed in hospitals. Waits of weeks or months for an appointment were not uncommon, and patients typically spent several days in the hospital and several weeks out of work in recovery.

Faced with frustrations like scheduling delays, limited operating room availability, and challenges in obtaining new equipment due to hospital budgets, physicians were looking for a better way―and developed it in Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASCs).

The first ASC was opened in Phoenix, Arizona, in 1970 by two physicians who saw an opportunity to establish a high quality, cost-effective alternative to inpatient hospital care for surgical services.

In the ASC, physicians are able to schedule procedures more conveniently, assemble teams of specially trained and highly skilled staff, ensure that the equipment and supplies being used are best suited to their techniques, and design facilities tailored to their specialties and to the specific needs of their patients.

The Rincon ASC was born of this desire to deliver high quality, cost effective care in the Southeast area of Tucson.  Tucson Medical Center, recognizing the need for access to surgical services in the area collaborated with 15 surgeons in 2020 to build the Rincon ASC.  Today our 15 surgeon partners form the majority interest in the center and collectively determine the policies and direction of the center.

The Rincon ASC is proud to be the first Ambulatory Surgery Center is Southeast Tucson and is committed to delivering the absolute best surgical care to the patients we serve.
